Abu Garcia Vendetta 7' Medium Heavy Fast Review
My take on the 7-foot, one-piece, medium heavy, fast Abu Garcia Vendetta: light and sensitive enough to feel jig ticks, and the one-piece transport problem.
The short answer
The Abu Garcia Vendetta 7' medium heavy, fast is light and sensitive enough that I feel bites and ticks on the line better than I do on cheaper rods. My only real complaint is hauling a one-piece seven-footer around.
Abu Garcia Abu Garcia Vendetta Casting Rod (7', 1-piece, Medium Heavy, Fast)
Best for: Jigs and finesse baits where you need to feel light bites
A 7-foot, one-piece, medium heavy, fast-action casting rod. I fish it daily paired with a Shimano SLX DC reel.
Pros
- Light in the hand
- Sensitive: I feel triggers and hits on the line more than on a regular, cheaper rod
- Versatile 7-foot, medium heavy, fast layout
Cons
- One-piece blank is awkward to transport without a truck
The Abu Garcia Vendetta is the rod I fish most. Mine is a 7-foot, one-piece, medium heavy, fast-action casting rod, and I pair it with my Shimano SLX DC reel for jigs, finesse baits and spinners.
Why I like it
Two reasons, and they are the two that matter most to me: it is light, and it is sensitive. I feel triggers and hits on the line with this rod more than I would with a regular, cheaper option. That matters most with jigs and finesse baits, where the bite is often a tick or a little bit of extra weight, not a hard strike.
The seven-foot, medium heavy, fast layout is a very versatile bass setup. The fast action puts the bend at the tip for good sensitivity and hook-setting, and the medium heavy power gives you the backbone for jigs without feeling like a broomstick.
Abu Garcia’s published specs for the Vendetta line describe a 30-ton graphite blank, an EVA split grip, an ergonomic reel seat and stainless guides with zirconium inserts. The 7-foot medium heavy version is rated for roughly 12 to 20 pound line.
What I don’t like
Honestly, only one thing: the one-piece blank. If you do not have a truck to carry it, you end up strapping it to the roof or living with it in the cab of your vehicle. That is a real hassle. Beyond that, I have no complaints.
A note about versions
The Amazon link on this page goes to the newest Vendetta model. I am not certain it is identical to the rod I own, so treat any small spec differences as the manufacturer updating the line. The length, power and action I describe (7 feet, medium heavy, fast, one piece) are what is printed on my rod.
Who should buy it
If you want a light, sensitive rod for jigs and finesse, and you can handle a one-piece blank, the Vendetta is easy to recommend. It also pairs well with an all-around reel like my Shimano SLX DC 150.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Abu Garcia Vendetta sensitive enough for jigs?
In my experience, yes. It is light and sensitive, and I feel triggers and hits on the line more than I would on a regular, cheaper rod.
What is the downside of a one-piece rod?
Transport. Without a truck you end up strapping a seven-foot rod to the roof or living with it inside the vehicle.
Is the rod on the Amazon page exactly the one you own?
The listing is for the newest Vendetta generation. Mine may be an earlier version, so small spec differences are possible. The length, power and action I describe match what is printed on my rod.
